What is Breast (Mamma) CT?

Breast CT is a new advanced technology providing high resolution 3D images of the breast, compression free.

How does it work?

The scanner uses very low dose x-rays that rotate around the breast to generate an image. The radiation dose is similar to mammography and in some cases (implant studies) significantly lower. The patient lays prone on the imaging table and the scanner rotates around the breast. There is no compression used in this examination.

How does it work?

  1. No compression: Unlike traditional mammography there is no compression applied to the breast making the test more comfortable for patients.
  2. 3D imaging: It produces high resolution, cross sectional 3D images of the breast allowing for better visualisation of the anatomy without tissue overlap.

  3. Fast: The scan takes approximately 7 seconds per breast.
  4. Improved detection: It offers high-resolution, 3D anatomical detail, which can improve the detection of tumours, especially when used with contrast media.

  5. Targeted Screening: It is used for diagnostic evaluation of suspicious features, such as masses or microcalcifications.
